The hotel was basic, but the staff was very friendly and the accomodations were comfortable. The room was clean, the shower was excellent, and the location was perfect. The windows were very good at soundproofing (as we learned when we opened them one night). Overall, a good value compared to some of the other rates we saw.
The internet in the lobby should have been free based on the setup (e.g. not private). The hair dryer in the room was very weak and the plugs were not standard European, so I couldn't use mine. The bed could have been more comfortable, but after walking all day, it wasn't a problem. No complaints.

The best thing about the hotel is that it is very central and therefore you need no other travelling means to get around in the city.. The room was very clean and the staff were very helpful when asked questions about the city... However the Hotel is in the old part of Zurich and you must have a passion for small, central Hotels..and when I mean small .... really small .. There are lots of restaurants close to the hotel and since you are in the very center of Zurich you do not need any running around.. It is ideal if you want to walk along the promenade and do some shopping.
The first impression of the hotel is quite strange.. When the shuttle bus stopped us in the road it looked like a guest house because underneat it is a caffe bar/restaurant and the hotel is super small... In fact it is the smallest hotel I have ever been to.. We had to carry the luggages all the way to the door.. At the entrance of the hotel there is a small narrow corridor with a super small lift at the end... The lift is so small that we could not fit with the suitcases so we put the suitcases in the lift and climbed to the first floor where there is a reception along a narrow corridor.. The check in was quite fast and in ten minutes we had the key to the room and a briefing... Noise level from my room since it was directly underneat the restaurant was unbearable and when you close the window the room becomes stuffy and warm.. I told the reception about the heater in the room but she said nothing could be done because the rooms are all controlled from the heater room and could not reduce the heating in the room.. Besides the few hours of sleep I had during the night all went well...We book a shuttle taxi by our reception and she told us that it would cost 30 Francs but when we paid the driver he asked us for 40Francs .. Zurich is a very beautiful city but very expensive....Everything cost money ...even fruit is expensive .

Good location, spacious room. Staff very helpful and multilingual. Breakfast simple but good quality and quantity. Compared to other hotels in Zurich at a similar price, it is notably better.
Access by car is difficult. The hotel does not have wi-fi (but it does have internet access by ethernet and spare cables).

The location in the old part of the city.
No Wide Area Network - carged an unreasonable price for cable internet connection. Some unfriendly staff at the breakfast buffet. Small rooms and not very clean. Overpriced rates due to the location.

That it was close to our friends appartment.
What our family experienced in Franziskaner hotel, Zurich and the ordeal they put us through is unthinkable and unprecedented. The hotel conduct was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. They detained our luggage in order to force us to succumb to their illicit practices, for which we are pressing charges. We will communicate our horrific experience and the unbelievably stressful situation they put us through to all interested parties including the Swiss authorities which they refused to call. We regret we ever booked our stay at the Franziskaner hotel which we consider a disgrace for Zurich. During checkout the receptionist claimed she had a problem with our credit card, so she contacted their bank which gave her approval and clear instructions. We were then told payment was completed and we left our entire luggage to be put in the hotel’s storage room. Upon our return late afternoon, they refused to return our luggage, travel documents, passports and diabetes medication. To our astonishment, we were told that the hotel considered insecure any financial transactions with banks in Greece. We pointed out that the payment was approved before we left, that they hadn’t called us all day, that we would miss our flight, that it was illegal to detain our belongings. We asked repeatedly to call the police and they refused. They shutdown all computers so the police would have no access and demanded to charge also a second credit card which they claimed would cancel later. Back home, our bank informed us that their system shows approval. We spend 3 days to clarify this, only to find out that they had made a mistake, requested and so got approval for a reservation instead of a charge to the card and then they just did not want to wait over weekend for payment.

Central location and proximity to tram stop. I can't comment on price since I have no other experience in Zurich, which is known as one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Noise level. Due to the lack of air conditioning, it was necessary to leave a window open at night. With the fans in the room, it was not uncomfortably warm at night but, since all the rooms face a square, it could be noisy. The bathroom is actually a large plastic enclosure built against one the room's walls. The color of this enclosure should be darker in order not to illuminate the entire room when the light is turned on in the middle of the night.

Excellent location, in the very center of the old town. Very nice and helpful staff.
No air conditioning. Noisy bars and terraces outside my room, could not sleep with the windows open.

This was my 5th or 6th stay at the hotel. I love the location in the heart of the lively old city of Zurich, the ease of access from the railway station, the wonderful breakfast and the unfailing helpfulness and friendliness of the staff.
